East Asian Studies Workshop: Graduate Student Forum Writing Exchange

Date
Thu January 19th 2017, 5:00 - 8:00pm
Location
Knight Building, Room 201

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Hello, and a warm new year’s greetings to you all. The Stanford East Asian Studies Workshop is pleased to announce the first event of the winter quarter on
Thursday, January 19th
from 5:00-8:00 PM as
the Graduate Student Forum returns in a new format.

Like last year, the Graduate Student Forum is designed to further academic exchange, professionalization, and also camaraderie among graduate students involved in the study of East Asia at Stanford. While last year’s Forum events took the form of short oral presentations, this session will focus on written work. Each participant will bring a short piece of their writing and have the opportunity to read the writing of many of their colleagues while also sharing their own with others in a series of one-on-one exchanges. (To be clear, participants are not expected to write something new for the purposes of the event, but rather to bring a short seminar paper or other piece of work that they have already written sometime in the past. The focus is less on intensive critique and feedback on a work-in-progress than it is on sharing and one-on-one discussion of a more or less complete piece of writing.)

Dinner and refreshments will be served. This should be a rare opportunity to get to know the work and the written voices of your graduate student peers, so we hope to see you all there!
